Long Days

1:14 am

This week is called “Hell Week” at my new job, because it is the busiest week of the year. We have TONS of things to do for the Buick Open. Yesterday I put in a 13.5 hour day and today I just got done working over 15 hours. I didn’t realize it was going to be this crazy! It looks like the rest of the week is going to be about the same, and we’ll probably be working Saturday and possibly Sunday. I don’t get paid a lot but at least I’ll have a lot of overtime. I’ll just be glad when it’s over!

Making Signs

10:31 pm

I recently got a job with the company that makes the signs for the Buick Open. There’s a lot of work to be done the next few weeks, setting everything up and cleaning up after it’s over. I’m kind of a temporary employee since it’s their busiest time of the year. If it stays busy enough after the Buick Open, I’ll be able to keep working for them.

It’s nice to be working somewhat in the design field. Even if it only turns out to be temporary work, I’ll get some good experience. We’ll see what happens!

Staying For a Bit?

6:22 pm

So it’s a few days after the 4th of July and I’m not in Atlanta yet. Why? Well, I guess you could say I chickened out…

I decided I’d rather not risk a big move right now without having a job lined up. While moving to Atlanta would mean I’d live in an area with a better economic outlook, I’d be in the same situation as I would if I’d stay in Michigan. I’d be working a part-time job, looking for a “real” job. The only thing is, with a higher cost of living in Atlanta, I’d have a harder time paying the bills. It just seems to make more sense to stay here, at least for now.

I’d still like to move there sometime in the near future. My plan would be to either get a “real” job down there, or establish myself in web design, so I could move and attend SCAD-Atlanta. Time to make it happen!
