Red Stripe

12:57 am

Red Stripe bottle
There are some funny commercials on TV for Red Stripe beer. If you’ve never heard of Red Stripe, it’s a Jamaican beer in a short, stubby bottle. You can check out the commercials and other funny clips on their site. My favorites are the ‘Ugly Man’ commercial and the ‘Reggae’ radio clip, but check it all out!!

Task: Website Revamp

12:10 am

For my first real “task” post, I’ve finally decided to revamp the website. I haven’t had the site up for long, but I haven’t really made it feel like home yet. I also need to add things to the other sections of the site. I have too many pages that say “Check back soon.” One of the main things that I’d like to add is a photoblog or some other type of picture gallery. So… check back soon for updates!!

U.S. Men’s Basketball

3:10 pm

I was finally able to watch the U.S. Men’s Basketball team play in the Olympics, and they just lost to Argentina in the semifinals. I was not impressed at all with how they played. I have to say that I haven’t paid close enough attention to them know what’s wrong. It might be that the other teams are much better than they used to be. It might be that the U.S. team lacks experience. I’m not sure. All I know is that in this game, the U.S. players did not seem to play with the heart that other U.S. Olympians have.

Well, I have a simple idea that might help bring out the best of a U.S. team… Gather the best players who want to be in the Olympics, both college and pro, and have a tryout. Forget about what each player has done in the past. Allow the players themselves prove that they have the heart to compete in the Olympics. The coach could help make the decision of who to cut and who to keep on the team. That way the players know that they will need to work hard to make the team, and the coach will also have a say in who he will be coaching.

Self-Restraint

6:30 pm

I recently saw a guy talk on TV about how Americans these days lack self-restraint. We just do whatever seems ok for ourselves without thinking about what’s right or without thinking of the consequences, even if it is something selfish or immoral. He said that some of the reality TV shows are examples of this. People just don’t seem to have the same morals that they used to just a few years ago. What do you think about this?

M.C. Escher

5:24 pm

M.C. Escher - Hand with Reflecting SphereIf you like optical illusions and other interesting artwork, check out M.C. Escher’s work. You may have seen some of it before, but most of it makes you wonder how it was done. A few of my favorites are:

Waterfall
Ascending and Descending
Drawing Hands

Also check out the videos showing how some of his optical illusions would look in 3D.

Recycled Youth

11:36 pm

My friend Marx is in a band named Recycled Youth. I’ll be going to see them play at the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor on Tuesday night. Apparently, the Blind Pig was Kurt Cobain’s favorite venue to play at!!
